The New Zealand International Film Festival has now started in Auckland and the return of the Incredibly Strange Film Festival kicks off tomorrow night.
A chance to get the teeth into some cinema that might have otherwise missed the cultural backwater that is NZ.
On the viewing list thus far (and subject to many additions):
-NZFF-
Vexille
Jar City
Bigger, Stronger, Faster
Max & Co
Animation Now!
Crazy Love
Fear(s) of the Dark
The Escapist
Obscene
-ISFF-
Dear Zachary
Diary of the Dead
King of the Hill
Sukiyaki Western Django
Pop Skull
Timecrimes
(REC)
I Think We're Alone Now
Not Quite Hollywood
Frontier(s)

And in not entirely related news, apparently the new Batman is coming to Auckland at the IMAX, with six sequences that were shot on the 4 story high IMAX camera/projector system. The animated Batman anthology 'Gotham Knights' is out on DVD now as well. Looks very interesting in an 'Animatrix' kind of way. Will have to find time to check it out amongst all the festival double headers.
